Okay... we are finally getting there!
Some background... As some of you might be aware, until recently the SJJS website was hosted in the UK with a company called Webfusion, a division of Pipex. After experiencing considerable downtime and then finally no service at all, I contacted their tech support to be told that the site and all its backups have been deleted! They stated that they received a request in June 2005 to delete the site, which is very interesting when you consider the site was only registered in August 2005.
Whilst this was going on I was in South Africa for the whole of January and then involved in a very time consuming project at work for three months, which made it impossible to sort out the mess.
The new site... Instead of sticking with our friends at Webfusion, the site has been relocated to a hosting provider in the USA. Unfortunately because Webfusion deleted all the backups, the SJJS website has to be recreated from scratch. The latest version of DotNetNuke was installed, but the pages/content were missing and I have a terrible memory. Thankfully I had a brain wave; Google had cached (kept old copies of) the top level pages of the SJJS website. Most of the layout and text has been either recreated or pasted in from the cached copies.
Moving Forward... 1. Because the SJJS has been completely recreated, users will have to re-register with the site again. Sorry, I don't have everyone's details so I can't auto-create them. Once I have identified the users, I will put them into the correct security group, eg Club Sensei. Could I ask everyone to spread the word that the website is backup and running, so that we get their details again. 2. Most of the photos have been lost as I did not submit them to the site. I found copies of the May 2005 Seminar and November 2005 Grading photos, which I have uploaded to the Photo Gallery. Could I ask users to upload any missing photos into the Photo Gallery? If anybody has photos from the June 2006 Seminar, please could they upload them or send them to me at craig.jones@dulochpark.com . 3. I have copies of the videos that were previously on the site, but we need to review what we actually want to show and to whom. 4. We need to get more club instructors to post news on the website. Sensei Rimington gave an excellent Seminar on the 2nd to the 4th of June, and unfortunately (in my opinion) attendance could have been better. If the site had been active, and we had promoted the Seminar better using the site, we would have needed a reservation to get on the mats ;-) 5. Could I ask users to post news articles on: the Italian seminar, the June Seminar, Black Belt gradings, Glenrothes shutdown for two weeks, the August kyu gradings, the proposed seminar in November. Have I forgotten anything? ;-)
Lastly... Could I ask everyone to go through the site and let us know if anything is missing/in the wrong place/out of date? As usual, any content or feedback would be appreciated.
Craig.
