Site Admin

As you might have noticed, I am applying a new skin to the website and you might see some disruption with logos, images and content. I'll try to fix it over the next couple of days.

If anybody is half decent at graphics, please give me a shout as I need to fix the SJJS banner to match the new skin. Last time I did art, I got 8% for my exam and the teacher threw me out the class ;-)

Private Messages Module
By Craig.Jones @ 6:57 PM :: 551 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Website Admin

Added new functionality to the private messages module...

Registered SJJS members now have the ability to send messages to groups of people. A group for each SJJS club has been created and users can send messages to all members within a club by simply selecting the club name when composing a private message. The main benefit of this new feature is that club sensei can target messages to their club members, rather than trying to maintain an email distribution list.

Since I did not know which club(s) each registered member belongs to, I guessed... Please take yourself to the Members Area page and edit your group membership details.

Contact me if you have any problems.

Katana ban
By bo88y @ 8:06 PM :: 539 Views :: 0 Comments ::

You may have read or heard recently that the Government are trying to ban swords, including the Japanese Katana.
This is a knee-jerk reaction to the bad press that the katana swords have received in the last year.
Not everyone who owns or uses a katana is a hooligan, thug, villain or homicidal maniac, the majority of these swords are owned by collectors or more importantly serious martial artists.
If the Katana and other Oriental swords are banned then we will see the end of a number of very traditional martial arts in the UK.

Sign the petition and try and get the Government to rethink their plans, maybe licence them, restrict sales to specific outlets. But is a total ban really the answer?

Post grading news...
By Craig.Jones @ 1:16 PM :: 1215 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Classes, Gradings, Aberdeen, Bathgate, Burntisland, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Lochgelly

After the kyu grading on Sunday there was a SJJS club instructor meeting, and the following as discussed;

  • The SJJS will increase its annual membership fees; £25 for new members and £20 for renewals. The proceeds from the price hike will go to fund costly events like seminars.
  • Some clubs will be increasing their session price from £3 to £5. The increase is due to increased cost of hiring rooms at the venues and the fact that a couple of the SJJS clubs have been running at loss for the last couple of years. The Glenrothes Club will be the first club to increase their prices and the others may follow. Check with your club instructor for more details.
  • The Aberdeen Club is progressing with their membership into the SJJS and WJJF. Frank has got his qualification recognised by the WJJF and others will follow shortly.
  • A seminar with Simon Rimington in early December is currently be organised by John McNab. The current intension is for Simon to present a one day seminar, probably a Saturday. The location and exact dates will be announced nearer the time.
  • The next Kyu grading has been scheduled for the first week of December. Again, the exact dates will be announced nearer the time.
  • Archie Higgins has some SJJS posters that can be used to promote clubs. Contact Archie, Club Instructors or me if you can think of a suitable spot where we can advertise the SJJS and its clubs.
  • Finally well done to everyone who passed the kyu gradings at the weekend.

Blogs
By Craig.Jones @ 4:55 PM :: 587 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Website Admin

I don't know if anybody has noticed, but there is a Blog feature on the SJJS site. Blogs are web-logs. You have to be a registered member to view them. I have started a blog to talk about what interests me :-) The most recent entry is about MMA.

Any registered SJJS member can start a blog. To access the blogs; login, expand the Members Area node on the navigation treeview and click on Blogs. Some blogs are truncated, so click on the 'more' link to see the full post.

Give me a shout if you need help...
